CHICAGOLAND JEWELRY HISTORY

Historic Jewelers Row in Chicago

Here at Burdeen’s Jewelry, we’d like to make the claim that we’re Chicagoland’s Jewelry Store, but just what does that mean? While we have been based in the North Shore Chicago area for over 30 years, that doesn’t make us sole bearer to the throne as there are plenty of other jewelry stores in Chicagoland. What sets us apart is our unique understanding of the History of the Jewelry Industry within the Chicagoland Jewelry scene and our unique place within it.

Jewelers Row

With areas in the city like Jewelers Row and the Magnificent Mile, the jewelry industry has a special place within the history of Chicago and its suburbs. Jewelers Row itself is a historic area located in Chicago’s famous Loop. It houses several jewelry stores, many of which are family-owned and still housed within original buildings that were constructed 1872 and 1941. This area does more than sell jewelry, it has become a bastion of creativity within our industry and remains so to this day. In 2003, thanks to the beautiful architecture and its status with the jewelry industry, the downtown area was actually granted landmark status by Chicago.

Magnificent Mile

As for the Magnificent Mile, it is a world-famous stretch of Chicago’s Michigan Avenue of the near north side of the city, running from the Chicago River to Oak Street. It gets its “Magnificent” nickname thanks to several high-end jewelry and fashion stores housed within it. The Magnificent Mile has long stood as Chicago's answer to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, thanks in large part to these stores. Much like Jewelers Row, there's more than just commerce for tourists to enjoy. Along with several of Chicagoland’s oldest jewelry stores, there are several of the city’s architectural crown jewels like the John Hancock Center and the Trump International Hotel and Tower. These skyscrapers stand as testaents to the heights that our great city can reach.

Suburban Treasures

While Burdeen’s Jewelry may be in the suburbs on the edge of Lake County and Cook County, but we are no less proud of our place within the area's thriving jewelry scene. For over 30 years, Burdeen’s Jewelry has proudly served Chicagoland jewelry buyers with our unique blend of haute horology and custom jewelry. Prior to even opening our brick and mortar location, our founders Dennis and Sandy Burdeen were creating jewelry in the Chicago area and selling it to the Magnificent Mile store Neiman Marcus.

Now, we give our customers a unique blend of custom jewelry such as necklaces, diamond rings, bracelets and other pieces of fine jewelry that rival the finest European designers, in addition to Swiss timepieces from the most sought-after brands known to man including Omega, Breitling and Ulysse Nardin. No matter your budget, no matter where you come from in Chicagoland, Burdeen’s Jewelry has just the piece you need.
